According to Redditor StormSwitch, their copy of Back 4 Blood started downloading yesterday–about two weeks in advance of the game’s initial release date. Back 4 Blood will be an Xbox Game Pass day one title, so perhaps the developers wanted to make sure that players would be able to start their post-apocalyptic Ridden-killing spree as soon as possible.

StormSwitch posted a screenshot of their download, which reports about 34 GB. Their internet moved fast enough to download the full game in an expected time period of 10 minutes. This may not sound like a particularly taxing download, but gamers with less reliable internet may want to start pre-loading the game sooner rather than later. Xbox Game Pass may help to lighten the load, Back 4 Blood is still a AAA game that may put some pressure on gamers’ internet connections.

Over 5 million players took part in the Back 4 Blood beta, which may another reason Xbox Game Pass decided to make this game available for pre-load so soon. Left 4 Dead is still a very popular series, and since Back 4 Blood appears to be intended to fill the same co-op zombie-killing niche, the team may be trying to capitalize on previous successes. While Back 4 Blood does appear to be a very similar game, it will also be doing a variety of things differently than Left 4 Dead. This may not be a surprise, as the last Left 4 Dead game came out over a decade ago.

As of writing, fans appear to be tentatively excited about the early pre-load of Back 4 Blood on Xbox Game Pass. Several users have expressed a desire to leap into the game as soon as possible, though others reported being underwhelmed by the beta. Another user asked if this title was free with Xbox Game Pass, while several others wanted to confirm the game’s official launch date. A third user brought up the indie game Among Us, though they neglected to explain why. With Back 4 Blood’s marketing in full swing, it appears that fans have a lot to look forward to.

Back 4 Blood releases on October 12, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
